Take the bus to the Train Station, take the Train to the Vatican or the city of Rome. We just did not have enough time but this is a place you need a few days in. We did the Vatican and chapel and came back. We were so tired from all the walking. Must see port. ...
What is there to say about Rome that hasn't been said better by others? We stayed near the Spanish Steps, had dinner with friends of ours from Rome, and I attended mass at the Vatican. ...
Very dirty city full of homeless people. No place to sit anywhere when walking around, not even at bus stops. So much to see, great food, easy to navigate using HOHO. ...
Civitavecchia is more than an hour from Rome (up to 2 hours, depending on traffic), which is why I subtracted a star. I did not go into Rome this cruise, but there are of course many sights there worth seeing, allow at least four days, preferably a week or more.
Within striking distance of port is the town of Tarquinia, which has ancient burial mounds and an excellent archeological museum, which ...
Took the private car back to Rome from the disembarkation and it's worth every penny!
Too much luggage and I will have to deal with it on the upcoming land/train part of our European Vacation!
Next three days of Rome/Vatican excursions will be covered at Expedia... ...
Rome was a city on my bucket list and fascinating. The city is always crowded and loaded with aggressive street vendors and Beggers. The coliseum was worth touring along with St. Peter's Square, etc. ...
Spent 2 days before the cruise here and toured on our own. Did a golf cart tour of Rome and this was really good. The golf cart driver/tour guide was a crazy driver but sometimes you have to be with how crazy the roads are there. ...
The port of Civitavecchia is actually a 70 min train journey from Rome, we were lucky that this was the end of our cruise and we had a two night stay in Rome planned before flying home. Rome is a great city and some many sights to see, too many ruins to view, they seem to be everywhere. Some great architecture to view. We bought a 24 hour hop on hop off ticket and initially just sat on the bus and ...
We disembarked in Rome but booked the optional post-cruise extension. The hotel was substandard (little hot water in the bathroom, lights that mysteriously came on at 320 am) but Rome is a magical, indoor-outdoor art museum, filled with history everywhere. The airport transfer was flawless. ...
We didn’t do an excursion as we have stayed in Rome and done other excursions in previous cruises. We wandered into the old part of the city. It was extremely crowded getting away from the ship as it was a Friday and an embarkation/disembarking from other ships. ...
