Review for a Europe - Western Mediterranean Cruise on Norwegian Viva

What can you say about Rome but wow. You could spend a month there and not visit it all. We took a three hour tuktuk tour that was spectacular. Yes, it's packed with tourists, but there is so much to see that you can avoid the big crowds and still see amazing sights. ...

We started in Rome…(extra stay) it’s a big city for sure…cab drivers are something else (all the drivers are a different breed) ….very crowded…but we did find a nice street cafe we went to a couple of times to sit with the locals and have some drinks… ...

Spent a few days in Rome before the cruise playing tourist. Was able to see the Colosseum and several other important sites. The Pantheon was incredible - it was the only one we did w/o a guide (did a self guided tour - highly recommend). Saw the Christmas ...

Of course, there's much to see and do in Rome. I stayed in an area called Lido di Ostia, which is near the ocean and was reasonably priced. It took about 45 minutes via train to get to the Collisseum. To get to the port, I think it was approximately 1.5 hours via train. This is much more cost effective than purchasing a transfer to the port via the cruiseline. Train travel wasn't hard, and I ...

Take the bus to the Train Station, take the Train to the Vatican or the city of Rome. We just did not have enough time but this is a place you need a few days in. We did the Vatican and chapel and came back. We were so tired from all the walking. Must see port. ...

Civitavecchia is more than an hour from Rome (up to 2 hours, depending on traffic), which is why I subtracted a star. I did not go into Rome this cruise, but there are of course many sights there worth seeing, allow at least four days, preferably a week or more. Within striking distance of port is the town of Tarquinia, which has ancient burial mounds and an excellent archeological museum, which ...
