Named for Kristin Karst, executive vice president and part owner of AmaWaterways, AmaKristina exudes all the poise, elegance and warmth of its godmother. With a sleek design and expertly chosen decor, the ship and its excellent crew make passengers feel welcome as soon as they step onboard.

Launched in 2017, AmaKristina is the 20th ship in the line's fleet, offering two superb dining experiences, a heated top-deck pool and a fleet of 25 bicycles that are made available to passengers for use in port. There are also fun hidden touches that also serve a practical purpose. The wavy ceilings in the dining room? They're actually sound panels that reduce noise. The paintings in the stateroom hallways? They creatively mask fire extinguishers.

AmaKristina's Music-Themed Deck Plan Has All Of The Essentials

AmaKristina has four distinct decks, each named after musical instruments. The top deck, known as the Sun Deck, offers breathtaking panoramic views, a heated pool with a swim-up bar, a walking track, and plenty of lounge chairs for relaxation. Below it, the Violin Deck features the ship's most spacious staterooms, including suites with French and outside balconies, as well as entertainment and dining areas like the Main Lounge and Bar, Observation Lounge, and the Al Fresco Terrace.

The Cello Deck houses a variety of staterooms with elegant layouts and amenities, along with the intimate Chef's Table Restaurant, offering multi-course tasting menus. The Piano Deck, which is the lowest, features cozy staterooms and the Main Restaurant, where guests can enjoy gourmet meals. Although the grand staircase that connects each deck is perfect for a pre-dinner photo opp, the set leading down to the Main Restaraunt can get a bit crowded when everyone is leaving the Main Lounge all at once.

The ship also offers a massage and hair salon, a fitness center, and onboard bicycles for shore excursions, ensuring that every moment on board is filled with comfort and leisure.

Fellow Passengers

Who's On Board?

The line aims to draw a slightly younger demographic through more active pursuits like biking and hiking in port, as well as theme sailings that include wine, Adventures by Disney and Backroads bike tours.

The line sees most of its passengers in the 55-and-older age group, with about 85 percent of clientele hailing from the United States and 13 percent from Canada. The remaining 2 percent largely comprises cruisers from the U.K. and Australia. Children generally aren't found on regular sailings, but Adventures by Disney sailings do aim to draw families with younger cruisers.

On our sailing, many had taken ocean cruises before and were trying river cruising for the first time, but AmaWaterways does have a steady stream of repeat travelers who are loyal to the line.

The Soulful Experience Cruise On AmaKristina Highlights Black Heritage

AmaWaterways' Soulful Experience itinerary centers around Black history and culinary traditions, featuring special excursions like jazz performances, heritage site visits, and special onboard entertainment. The experience begins with a pre-cruise stay in Paris where guests go on an exclusive tour of the city, stopping at various historic sites and Black-owned businesses around the city.

On a 2024 Rhone River cruise, passegers enjoyed delicious bites at a local Senegalese cafe, African diaspora dinners onboard the ship and exciting walking and bus tours through parts of France that held Black historical significance.

Many in the group utilized the AMA pre tour in Paris, and a large group went on the post tour to Barcelona. We are just home from our 5th cruise with AMA, and it did not disappoint , We were a group of 40, and I was what AMA called the pied piper.Read More

Hot but intriguing cruise down the Rhône river through the South of France

This was our second cruise with AMA and we chose this particular cruise based on the fact it included a 3 day stay in Paris and we added the Barcelona extension. The accommodations in Paris and Barcelona was outstanding.Read More

Age 60s

Such a disappointment!

Based on the write up for this cruise, we were expecting local dishes (this was a French intensive cruise), but we didn’t feel that coq au vin on day five or beef bourgonion on day four and French onion soup on day one were enough. The Chef’s Table, which everyone could try once, was the highlight, but Minnesota perch fish was served as one course and we couldn’t understand why a local fish wasn’t used.Read More
